Dave Berg, CPA

David is a native of Sutter County and is descended from pioneer Sutter, Yuba and Butte County families. He attended and graduated from Yuba City High School and the University of Santa Clara in Santa Clara, California. He began his career in 1970 with Arthur Andersen, a national CPA firm. He also worked for local CPA firms and was a controller for a private company before starting Berg Accountancy Corporation. He obtained his California CPA license in 1973, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. Dave served as the first president of the Community Memorial Museum Commission, past president and treasurer of the Rotary Club of Gridley. He and his wife Denise reside in Live Oak and have three children and seven grandchildren.

Aaron Chatfield, CPA

Mr. Chatfield is a Shareholder at Berg & Chatfield CPAs Inc. His practice areas include taxation of individuals, sole proprietors, Corporations, S-Corps, Partnerships, LLCs, Trusts, Estates, and Non-Profit entities. He works with cattle ranchers and farmers growing rice, walnuts, almonds, prunes, peaches, and kiwis. He works with dentists, doctors, and manufacturing companies providing tax strategies, compliance, planning to reduce taxes, and succession planning. Aaron believes estate planning is essential as clients approach their retirement years.

He started his career in public accounting in 1996 with Matson and Isom (now KCoe Isom) where he stayed for 18 years working in both their Chico and Yuba City offices. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports, and being involved in community service with the Lions Club and his church. Aaron served at two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Argentina, where he learned to speak Spanish (Castellano). He received his Bachelor of Science from C.S.U. Chico with an option in Accounting graduating in 1996.

Nathan Black, CPA

Nathan Black, CPA

Nate is the newest Shareholder at Berg & Chatfield CPAs Inc. Having grown up in Orangevale, California Nate pursued his undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting from Cal Poly-SLO. Nate obtained his CPA license in 2009 and Master’s Degree in Accountancy from Sacramento State University in 2013. He moved with his family to Sutter County in 2013, working for the successor firm to Chipman and Renfrow, CPAs.

In 2014, Nate was elected to the office of Sutter County Auditor-Controller and is currently First Vice President of the California State Association of County Auditors. Nate is also a board member and past president for Trindel Insurance JPA.

Nate and his wife Becky have 5 children that keep them very busy playing soccer and performing gymnastics. He’s enjoyed coaching soccer for the last 10 years.
